Memorials for that Special Cat

Our stone garden cats are bought for a myriad of reasons. It may be for someone's retirement , a wedding anniversary, a thankyou present for a cat-sitting neighbour or as a reminder of a holiday in Wensleydale, North Yorkshire. But a special reason for buying one of our stone cats is as a memorial for a much loved departed pet cat. Indeed most of our stone garden cats are obtained for just that purpose.

Thankyou so much for the Orlando Stone Garden Cat which I received last week. I lost my beloved Ben in July and although he was a brown Burmese he was large for his breed and the stance of Orlando is just as Ben would have sat under his favourite bush. I have placed him there where I can see him from my kitchen window and it gives me a little comfort and a feeling that he is still close to me to glance up and see him there.

Here at Moorside we began to mark the graves of our own cats, Chloe,Orlando and Tilda when their long working lives, as our original models, came to an end. Pandora watches over the grave of Tilda whilst Fred sleeps peacefully over the last resting place of Chloe and her offspring Orlando.

We hope it will be some time yet before Zoe and Millie, our present models, come to the end of their lives. Zoe is just 15 years old and Millie a mere 2 years old. (Unfortunately Millie died of Leukemia in July 2007.)  We now have a new black and white kitten called Ruby.
