West Burton, nestling below Penhill in the secluded valley of Walden, away from the busy through roads is a haven of tranquility. With its broad expanse of Green, one of the largest in England, there is ample space for many activities or none - just relaxing on the seats scattered around the Green or on the steps of the Market Cross, a focal point for parents, with children on the swings or playing ball games on the Green.

Surrounding the Green are the dwellings and other buildings of West Burton the pub, the school, village hall and chapel as well as the village store and post office, the butcher, antiques shop, picture framer and, of course, The Cat Pottery: Moorside Cats. Just down from the Cat Pottery, less than 150 paces or a couple of minutes, but quite hidden from view is the Waterfall and Walden Beck with its pools and rocks ideal for swimming, paddling and just idling about.

This part of Wensleydale certainly confirms the most recent poll ( June 2006) that North Yorkshire is the most beautiful county in England.

From the entrance to Moorside Cats, through an alpine garden flanked by dry stone walls you reach the workshop, invariably acccompanied by Zoe, our guide cat, if she is not asleep beside one of the stone cats on the wall.

Outside the workshop is the collection of stone garden cats on walls and pedestals, whilst beyond, in the garth lie the graves of Chloe, Orlando and Tilda, the original Moorside Models watched over by Fred and Pandora.

Inside the workshop there is a collection of Metallic Cats and a much more extensive range of Ceramic Cats than is shown on the web, including the larger cats like Bella, Millie and Aisha which can only be obtained by visiting Moorside Design in West Burton.

The workshop is accessible by wheelchair up a path with a gentle gradient and no steps along which our happy customers come and go.
