..........why not explore the village of West Burton, nestling below Penhill in the secluded valley of Walden.
Away from the busy roads, West Burton is a haven of tranquility with its broad expanse of village green, one of the largest in England. There is ample space for relaxing on benches scattered around the green or the steps of the Market Cross while children play on the swings and roundabout or ball games on the green. A visit to the waterfall is a must.
We still have our village pub - The Fox and Hounds serving food and drinks, and a village tea shop. There is also an excellent family butcher where you can buy locally reared meat to take home.
This part of Wensleydale confirms a recent poll that North Yorkshire is the most beautiful county in England. It certainly does warrant a visit or better still a few days stay when you can explore the many walks in the area.
